DOES EXTRA SKIN IN YOUR VAGINAL AREA AFFECT YOUR INTIMACY?
If so, at Medilaser, Cosmetic Surgery and Vein Center, we have the techniques necessary to help you in that area.
Currently, women are more aware of their bodies than ever before. Modern females groom their bodies to reveal the beautiful appearance of their skin. They are confidently exposing previously hidden areas such as back of the neck, arm pit and genital region. This has been possible because of the development of laser hair reduction technology which, in fact, is one of the most commonly performed non-surgical cosmetic procedures in the United States every year. The advent of this technology has brought a new concern among females these days: the appearance of genitalia that were previously covered by their pubic hair. In addition, women are subjected to significant pressure due to the internet which has created a “new standard of attractiveness” today.
However, there is not really a standard of appearance and size of women’s external genitalia today. “Enlarged” labia minora (inner vaginal lips) and labia majora (outer vaginal lips) are not uncommon. They usually do not harm the woman, but eventually they cause cosmetic concerns and discomfort with undergarments or during intercourse. Several factors including genetics, age and childbirth can contribute for women to develop laxity and extra skin surrounding their vagina.
FACTS about Labiaplasty Vaginal Rejuvenation
Labiaplasty
There is a treatment for the extra skin around the vagina or labia minora redundancy. It is an office based procedure called Labiaplasty and is performed under local anesthesia with mild oral sedation. During Labiaplasty surgery, the doctor will trim labial tissue to make it smaller and balanced, yet still natural-looking.
Patients are often surprised with how little discomfort there is with this procedure and return to work 2-4 days after surgery. After the procedure, patients may experience soreness for 3-4 days. During the first month post-surgery, patients must be very gentle with the tissue because of the small, dissolvable sutures used. Patients will be prescribed antibiotic ointment to apply to the labia and should refrain from sexual activity and strenuous exercise for 6 weeks. Although all surgeries create scars, the scars after Labiaplasty are virtually invisible.
